This Video Game Finally Lets Me be a Detective Cat

That’s all you really need to know, isn’t it? An open-world game is about about a group of cats on a remote Maine island that try to figure out where the hell the humans have disappeared to.

I cannot stress how insanely excited I am right now.

Originally a Kickstarter campaign, Peace Island gives you license to explore the fiction in Maine as any or all of the cute cats. Eric Blumrich, game developer and animator, says if you’re not an explorer, that’s fine too-

Blumrich – with the help of his very small team – work tirelessly on the game and even update Patreon‘s on every bit of progress, including any minor setbacks, leaps forward, animations and behind-the-scenes photos (including one of his closet desk which I can indescribably relate to).

Something I’ve really admired is Blumrich’s dedication to keeping this a game where microtransactions won’t exist and once you buy the game, you own it. Even if in the future he wants to expand it in some ways and introduce DLC micro-transactions, I would happily put money towards it because I know so much love and hard work has gone into this indie game.

You know what I really love though? No exclusivity. I have been dying to play Detroit: Become Human and and Spider-Man since before their releases, but because I’m poor-ass and can’t afford a PS4, I’m sitting her sulking like some first-world problemer (which.. I mean I am, I get it). Peace Island won’t have any of that “Steam/Playstation/PC only” and that makes me so happy.

Another thing I love is that this game won’t be a grind, something I’m feeling in the new Red Dead Online summer update and have felt in a few games I’ve play over the last year or two. Cats don’t grind – sure, some tasks are difficult and a journey, but you know what cats do when they don’t see a tanglible reward in it for them? They bail.

One of the early animation tests. Look at that coat! That slinky strut! The dancing TAIL!

I’ve only known about the game for a few months now (and a Patreon contributor for a little less) and I’ve been impressed with how quickly the graphics have improved. The above photo is the most recently uploaded one in this post and you can see just how much colour, depth and texture has been added.

The PC option is available with Mac still having some issues worked out but should be available soon. I really can’t stress to you how excited I am to play this game, and I really hope if you’re interested you check out the Patreon and support a beautiful-looking game!

Venom is the Romance Movie I Was Hoping It Would Be

soulmates
Some mood music before we begin-

Venom came out on Thursday and I have been so excited to see it. I love Venom in cartoons and the comics, so I thought I’d talk about the movie, what I liked, some things I didn’t really like so much, but mostly pointing to the fact I love Eddie and Venom together.

(Spoilers will be white text you can highlight if you want to see!)

YouTubers That Keep Me Sane

YouTube-thank

I’m not great when it comes to what’s hot, what’s new, what’s even happening right now anywhere (like, have you seen this blog? I’m the hungover, sleeping dude in the back of a van, constantly late for class), so I rely on some YouTube channels to let me know what’s happening, but most importantly to entertain me and cut through the bullshit.
I don’t have time. I have gone down too many video rabbit-hole ventures and am strangely getting more impatient as I get older.

So I’ve made a list of some YouTube channels I’m personally subscribed to that make my days more enjoyable.

My Penpal Is A Killer: The Hunt A Killer Subscription Box

HAK-logo

Mysteries, thrillers, crime, I live for it. Ho boy, if you saw my Netflix ‘Recently Watched’ you might wonder if I have any joy in my life. Blame my mum and her macabre interests rubbing off on my sister and me.
I found out about this subscription almost a year ago while compiling a list of boxes I’d like to review for the blog. After jotting down a full page of boxes (almost all of them I realised much later don’t even ship to Australia) I found a link to Hunt A Killer, an immersive, on-going spiral of intrigue and insanity (my opinion there), where you’re teamed with a penpal who sends you cryptic shit and basically puts a lot of trust in you, but more about that later..
