We’re Moving! Here Are Some Tips

pp-takes-up-drinking

I’m diverting from what I was going to post as moving is constantly on my mind so I might as well talk about that!
Yes, we’re moving and in a pandemic! It’s fun. It’s really, really fun. Thankfully we have places lined up to go but we still have a whole house of stuff to downsize then move to multiple places.

So this is how it’s being done.

Here is a Summer Blackout Prep Because It’s Hot as Balls

red-lighted-candle-220618

[At the time of publishing I heard about the QLD and NSW fires currently happening. Reminder to look here no matter where you live. If you are in areas right now that are close, get off this page and listen for emergency service instructions. Have leaving procedures in please for yourself and remember your pets. Please stay safe out there.]

It’s 40C here and I’ve been out today, so I’m hot, prickly, swollen and grumpy. Let’s make a post!

We’re actually going to do something very relatable to this gross weather; how to prepare for the summer blackouts predicted for this summer season and into the foreseeable future until we go extinct.
Another reason why I’m doing this post is that I see a lot of posts getting ready for winters (especially US-based) and not many for hot summers, which makes people hallucinate Snoopy and, yanno, die. People forget how bad heat is on the body.

Below will contain tips your phone and in general, plus food ideas and what to aid to your first aid/emergency kit. I’m sure I’ve missed obvious things so this will be constantly updated.

Wee teeny-tiny disclaimer: This post is for scenarios where power will resume within 10-12 hours as that is what I’m used to currently (thank goodness I don’t live in the middle of nowhere anymore!). To truly be ready for food/water shortages and longer blackouts, make sure you calculate how much water you need for each day using something like an online calculator, keeping in mind this should be the minimum for hot days.

Furry Little Prayers

FPIC
Hey guys,

I want to thank you for your patience with me lately; I’ve been promising to post regularly and keep up-to-date with my social media yet something always seems to happen.

This time, it hasn’t really been about me or my human family, but my furry family. My Furry Partner In Crime (FPIC for short) is sick. Cancer sick. I’ve been crushed since being told and have had to adjust how I spend my time as I’ve had to look after her and feed her every few hours. Even though she is a clingy little asshole, she’s my little asshole, and my days are 99% of the time spent around her. She is always near me when I plan and write my posts, take the photos, retake the photos because she’s either in it or a clump of her fur blows into the shot.

It’s been a bit of a challenge to get into a routine, but I think we’re almost there so next week I can get back to something of normality for the site… maybe a better normality with some actual content!

So please keep her in your thoughts, please share if you’ve been through something similar with your furry ones, and thank you for coming to see us every day

Massive amounts of love,

L & FPIC 🐾

DIY Drawer Dividers!

While I was working on another post I was getting ready to clean up my vanity. I actually wanted to go to my local IKEA and grab some drawer dividers, but it’s kind of hard to get to by myself, so I decided to try my luck at making some.

At first, I was going to use cereal boxes but I realised quickly they would be too flimsy and thin. I did have a cardboard box I was going to use, but the box had been used for moving and I felt dirty every time I touched it.
However, I was looking at some of my photography equipment and I saw a white foam board, one you can find at Kmart or dollar stores. It had a dent in it and was marked a bit, which is why I didn’t use it any longer.

I decided a little after starting to cut out the pieces that I should actually put it up on here in case any of you want to make your own!

How To Actually Style Your Rental (Without Pissing Anyone Off)

cover-rental
I can’t tell you how sick and tired I am of looking on Pinterest, getting sucked into some damn article that tells me the same styling tips that I can do which I actually absolutely can not. I am absolutely not allowed to change any fixtures, any stupid-ass temporary flooring or cabinetry. At all. I’m really lucky though because we’re the first people to live in this new, modern house.

But you might be so lucky. You might be living in an older place but still can’t change any lighting or fixtures, or you can do it to one area but not another. Look it’s a weird rental game out there no matter where you live, and it’s important to make it feel comfortable for yourself and anyone else you might be living with.

So here are some things that have helped me in the rental places I’ve lived.

How To Geekify Your Home, The Grown Up Way

Having your own space and the money (sometimes a whole dollar to your name!) to decorate is possibly one of the best reasons being a grown-up is awesome. When you’re an adult with your own space, money and a big fan of something, you have plenty of design ideas to show your love to your favourite sports team, show or movie. A lot of the time, though, you’re living with someone else or just want to have a more grown up look.
Despite there are loads upon loads of examples for kid’s rooms, it isn’t impossible to put together a grown-up area.

To help you along, I’ve come up with some handy hints to help you get started!
