Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but damn do we do anything to come off as beautiful. This isn’t a new statement or mindblowing revelation, it’s as old as our great ancestors who would do anything to bang and pop out kids.
Bless humans, we are so, so simple. Something new or talked about swirls in the air, and we’ll try it… even if we people who are selling really don’t know what they’re giving out.
This will be the first post in the series of dangerous beauty products and practices throughout history (and sometimes, not so much history as ‘literally today’). From corneas falling out to burns to poisons to becoming radioactive, we’ll look at the secretly deadly and insane ways we’ve made ourselves beautiful.

Hey everyone, I hope the upcoming Christmas insanity hasn’t made you lose all composure just yet.
I thought I’d share a printable I made for both The Evil Assistant and myself for our updated beauty routines. I was going to do a more in-depth weekday one showing when to use acids (AHA and BHAs) and retinols buuuut that whole “Catalina update sucks and I don’t have access to my Photoshop CS6 anymore” thing is still happening… you know, that ole chestnut!
At least I can share this simple routine with you now and give you some other quick tips to keep in mind.
- Use retinols at night only.
- Remember to ease into new routines, i.e. acids and retinol products should be used once a week then built up from there.
- Alternate acids and retinol use, e.g. Monday = acids, Tuesday = retinol, etc.
Mechanical exfoliants with chemical exfoliants
(sonic brushes then any “__ acid”, fruit enzymes like pineapple and AHAs/BHAs)
Benzoyl Peroxide and chemical exfoliants
Benzoyl Peroxide and retinol
Vitamin C and AHA/BHAs
